Well at 31 years old and a mom of three married for 10 1/2 years I think I had a breaking point. With each new child I realized my brain space shrinking drastically. My sensory overload I never knew I had until child to getting worse and worse. My piles of clutter growing and growing. I got to a point I couldn't stand it anymore and I reached out for help! Maybe you know the type of help that I am talking about. The get on my group of other moms on Facebook and ask them how the heck they are surviving and making it look easy! After a winter of back to back sickness overwhelm and pure insanity I reached out in a moment of total frustration and I got the answers I needed. I also got virtual hugs from many other moms either currently in the same boat as me or who had been there before. But one of the comments has changed my life!
The main gist of the post that I made was that I was thinking and I couldn't keep up with my house work and it felt like the more I cleaned in the more projects I did the worse it got! I also hinted out but didn't straight out say that I'm pretty sure I have ADHD or at least a brain that works along the lines of that where I can work all day long but I get 12 different projects started and none of them finished and at the end of the day my house is worse than it was at the beginning!
Well here's the life-changing comment that one of those lovely moms made that will never know how much she helped me. She suggested a book! Now normally I would never ever actually go get the book sit down and read it or I would get the book and I'd sit down and read the first chapter 2 and then forget about it or life will get busy in the midst of my sinking you know everything I already talked about. But this time was different. I needed to make a change I was in the mood to do some thing about it that day and I got on my hoopla library app and search for that author! Much to my dismay they didn't have the book I was looking for but that author had another book out called how to manage your home without losing your mind or something like that. I reserved it and immediately put it on in my AirPods and listened. I spent that whole day doing exactly what she said and at the end of the day my home looked great I felt great my husband noticed my family noticed and it was incredible. Do you know what happened to the next day? I woke up in my home was clean in my kitchen was clean and I was able to follow her step-by-step instructions again and it repeated itself the next day as I kept listening chapter after chapter. For two weeks straight without even realizing it had been that long my home was under control my cortisol levels were minimum I felt joy and I had spare time that I didn't know what to do with! She even talked about that in the book and what to do when you have those moments. This book was literally like I had written it. She thinks the way I think she did things the way I did things and she figured out how to change it and then she taught me how.
If you feel like you are in the same boat that I was and you want to literally change your life the way I have in less than a month here's where you start. Your dishes. Every single time that's where you start. Every time you're overwhelmed or your house is out of control you start with the dishes. You do not go to bed without loading and starting the dishwasher and hand washing whatever else is left drying it and putting it away unless you're sick or there's just one of those days where you literally can't.
I know it seems crazy but start with the dishes every single time every single day even if that's all that you do. If your kitchen is clean your house will feel clean your will feel better about yourself and your home and you'll have the month you need to do the next hard thing. Don't worry about anything else until you have your routine down and are consistently by ending every day with a clean kitchen so that you can start every day with a clean kitchen! Here's the magic. If you start the day with a clean kitchen and empty your dishwasher throughout the day dishes aren't going to pile up in the sink or the counters you're going to immediately rinse them and put them in the dishwasher and your family is going to see you doing that every single time and you are going to help them learn to do that every single time and over the course of weeks or months everyone in your family will be on the same board of the kitchen stays clean.
just do it! Right now or the next time you have a moment go do your dishes load the dishwasher start at hand wash everything else clear off your counters wipe them down make sure it's that way before you go to bed and wake up with a smile tomorrow! Then do it again and again and again until it's a habit. Then come back here for step two I promise you'll be excited and won't be able to wait for step two !
